4 facts about wrinkles in their many forms and treatments to make them disappear
As a Board-Certified Dermatologist, Dr. Huayi Zhang possesses a unique level of expertise in the treatment of over 3,000 skin, nail, and hair diseases. Dr. Zhang and our team at Bluebonnet Dermatology also have the knowledge and on-site capabilities to treat those cosmetic concerns that affect your self-confidence and overall well-being. It is our privilege to share four facts about one of the most common cosmetic concerns that we see and the approaches that our team in McKinney, Texas, takes to restoring youthful, healthy-looking skin.
1 – How wrinkles form
Wrinkles vary in their severity and appearance. They may appear as fine, wispy lines or as deeper, more pronounced creases and folds. Lines and wrinkles largely form due to declining levels of collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid, and other substances that provide support and structure to the skin. When this happens, the skin no longer has the ability to flex or bounce back after making a facial expression. These changes result in frown lines, crow’s feet, and other expression lines. As skin continues to lose collagen and elastin, tissues slacken, and creases may look worse and more noticeable.
2 – How we target wrinkles
The specific treatment that we recommend depends on factors such as where your wrinkles are located and the type and severity of your lines and creases. During a consultation, Dr. Zhang examines your areas of concern. With an understanding of your needs, she will then recommend different options to soften your wrinkles and restore your smooth, balanced skin. Potential options include injectable treatments, microneedling, chemical peels, and the PRX® Derm Perfexion system.
3 – Treatment for expression lines
Injectable muscle-relaxers are the most popular nonsurgical cosmetic treatment available today. At Bluebonnet Dermatology, we have carefully selected Dysport® as our muscle-relaxer of choice. This procedure softens lines around the eyes, between the brows, and on the forehead. It does so by relaxing the muscles that are associated with crow’s feet, frown lines, and horizontal forehead creases. When the muscle is not “activated,” the overlying skin stays nice and smooth.
4 – Treatment for other wrinkles
Depending on your needs and personal preferences, you may wish to move forward with chemical peels. This resurfacing treatment is highly versatile, as we can customize formulations to your needs. A more superficial peel may be most appropriate for mild, wispier lines. Deeper peels are most appropriate for more noticeable wrinkling. We also offer the advanced PRX® Derm Perfexion resurfacing treatment. It is an alternative to conventional peels as it penetrates the skin deeply without the risks and downtime associated with older peels. This system firms and smooths the skin by actually triggering the process of new collagen and elastin. Last but not least, microneedling also stimulates the production of fresh collagen and elastin by encouraging your skin’s natural healing processes.
