Your microneedling procedure to put saggy, wrinkled, scarred, and otherwise “aged” skin behind you is complete. Now what? Let our specialty practice at Bluebonnet Dermatology in McKinney, Texas, be your guide to five things to expect following this technique to heal and improve the texture and quality of the skin from the inside out.
It’s OK to experience a little irritation at the sites where the microneedles come in contact with your skin. You may also notice small, pinpoint scabs, swelling, sensitivity, tightness, and flaking. These effects should subside in 24 to 48 hours and are largely mild and limited to the treated skin.
We will provide you with specific instructions on how to care for your skin. In general, you should clean the area with a gentle product. Also, keep your skin moisturized to encourage healing. Again, stick with gentle products. Since this service disrupts the skin’s barrier, treated areas may be more sensitive than usual and vulnerable to clogged pores and the development of those small, white bumps known as milia. Be cautious when using skincare products, and only use items recommended by our board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Huayi Zhang.
Patients may notice their pores becoming smaller within 48 hours as their skin heals. However, the real power of microneedling resides in its ability to renew collagen. As we age, our bodies produce less of this firming protein. When this occurs, we may notice negative changes in the appearance and feel of our skin. For instance, the skin may no longer be as tight. Skin may be dry, which makes wrinkles look more apparent. By kickstarting the production of collagen, we can reverse these effects. Since collagen rebuilding is a process, changes occur gradually. After a week, you should notice that your skin is smoother, feels softer, and overall looks more radiant. Full improvements may be visible in six months.
Additional treatment sessions may be necessary for more dramatic improvements or repair of “stubborn” conditions like acne scars. A full “series” of treatments spans three to six appointments at monthly or bi-monthly intervals.
There is no journey to better skin that is quite like yours. Your skin’s characteristics and how they respond to treatment are unique. You may be satisfied with the results from treatment for six to 12 months. Or, you may wish to have a “touch-up” at the office of Bluebonnet Dermatology once every three to four months. Of course, how you care for your skin makes a world of difference. Dr. Zhang can develop a skin care regimen tailored to your needs. So you can get the most out of your microneedling service. The process starts with a consultation at our office in McKinney, TX. Call us at (469) 663-8838 to schedule your visit today.
